The new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport takes production sports cars to a whole new dimension. On a beautiful sunny day at 25 degrees the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport achieved a new landspeed world record for production cars, on the proving grounds of the Volkswagen Group at Ehra-Lessien (nearby its headquarters at Wolfsburg). In the presence of the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) and a representative of Guinness Book of Records the Super Sport achieved an average top speed of 431 km/h.

As the climax of its centenary celebration ceremonies, Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. presented customers and opinion-makers with the Bugatti 16 C Galibier concept, intended to be the most exclusive, elegant, and powerful four door automobile in the world last weekend in Molsheim. At the historic site where Ettore Bugatti once laid the cornerstone of his company, Bugatti’s current president, Dr. Ing. Franz-Josef Paefgen emphasised that the Galibier is one of several concept studies with which the company is considering for the future of the Bugatti marque.

The Bugatti Veyron has wiped the floor with the opposition in Autocar’s annual 0-100-0mph contest, featured in the current issue of the world’s oldest car magazine, even managing to beat a Suzuki GSX-R1000 superbike. Featuring 25 of the world’s fastest cars, from the 14th placed £79,995 Aston Martin V8 Vantage to the second-placed £34,995 Ariel Atom, the shoot-out pitches the cars against each other in a straight fight to see which is the fastest to 100mph. There’s more to it than just outright speed though – slowing from 100mph to a dead halt is just as important.

The incredible 1,000bhp Bugatti Veyron made its first appearance at a UK event when it roared up the Goodwood hillclimb on March 23rd during the annual Festival of Speed press launch. There were also debut appearances for the Maserati GranSport Spyder, Prodrive P2 and Range Rover Sport Supercharged HST. In total, more than 50 important racing cars and motorcycles took part, along with a host of motor sport heroes.

The development procedures adopted at the start of 2004 for the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 are on schedule. Four exceptional sports cars are still involved in endurance test runs and fine-tuning. In parallel, production of pre-run models has begun at the studio in Molsheim, France. Start of production of the pilot lot is planned for the beginning of May. The relevant processes are ready for the start of production. The technical data of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 mark an unprecedented level in series production. The superlative sports car is fitted with an 8.0 l W16 engine, 64 valves and four turbochargers. It has an output of 1001 PS (736 kW) and a maximum torque of 1 250 Nm (127 mkp) at 2 200 rpm. The two-seater made of high quality light-weight material will reach a top speed of over 400 km/h. The first Bugatti Veyron 16.4s will be handed over to an exclusive clientele in the second half of 2005.

The contours of a Bugatti has always been the work of a higly talented hands – disregarding the fact, whether created by the founder himself, Ettore Bugatti, or by his son, the most gifted Jean Bugatti. Each Bugatti car has been manufactured by hand by the team of some 1200 employees of the company. This tradition will be continued with the Bugatti Veyron 16-4 – also in regard to the constant endeavour to reach for the highest degree of elegance, aiming for the creation of an automotive piece of art.

BUGATTI Automobiles S.A.S. displayed the latest version of the Bugatti EB 16·4 Veyron at the 72nd Geneva Motor Show. With a two-colour red and black paint finish (‘rouge Ventoux / noir’) recalling the Bugatti T 57 C Ventoux Coupé of 1938, the car in display is close to production status in the driveline and body areas. In addition, the first performance figures are available: the production version will have a top speed of 406 km/h and accelerate from a standstill to 300 km/h in under 14 seconds.
