Spanish car maker SEAT is celebrating an historic achievement in the shape of the weekend’s ground-breaking first diesel victory by the dynamic Leon TDI in the hotly-contested HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park. SEAT Sport UK star driver Jason Plato piloted the diesel-engined racer to its momentous BTCC triumph, the first for an ‘oil burner’ in the 50-year history of the touring car championship, and catapulted himself from sixth to second in the BTCC Drivers’ Championship in the process.

Audi is expanding the TT line with a new entry-level engine: the 1.8 TFSI. This highly efficient four-cylinder engine with turbocharger and direct injection, with 118 kW (160 hp) and 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft) torque, lends the TT Coupé and TT Roadster sporty performance. A second innovation rounds out the program: The 2.0 TFSI now is also available with quattro all-wheel drive. The 1.8 TFSI is a high-tech engine that combines all of the features of modern engine technology. It is highly compact, and at just 135 kilograms (297.62 lb), it is unusually light. An adjustable intake camshaft improves the process of filling the combustion chambers, while two balancing shafts refine the engine’s running character.

Purist sportiness and compelling performance, combined with sensational efficiency - Audi is setting the trends yet again. The Audi TT Coupe 2.0 TDI quattro and Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TDI quattro are the first series-production sports cars in the world to be powered by diesel engines. The two-liter four-cylinder engine delivers dynamic thrust, with a power output of 125 kW (170 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque. On average, however, the TDI in the TT Coupe requires only 5.3 liters of fuel per 100 km (44.38 mpg) - unbeatably low consumption in the sports car segment.

Audi is taking the wraps off a new sports car model. In early summer, the top model of the TT line, the TTS, will be appearing at dealers in both Coupe and Roadster body versions. Its two-liter TFSI engine develops an awesome 200 kW (272 hp) that catapults the Coupe with S tronic dual-clutch transmission from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 5.2 seconds and on up to a governed top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph).

The most powerful Passat ever produced is now on sale. The new Passat R36, available in either saloon or estate bodystyles, is equipped with a naturally-aspirated 3.6-litre V6 engine developing 300 PS and 258 lbs ft of torque.  Drive is channelled via a six-speed DSG gearbox through a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system capable of diverting torque to either axle depending on the grip available.  As a result the saloon is capable of accelerating from rest to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds while the estate takes 5.8 seconds. Both models have limiters in place to restrict the top speed to 155 mph.

Hot on the heels of its world debut in Spain, and months ahead of its official on-sale date here, SEAT’s stunning new Ibiza supermini has been on a whistle-stop tour of the UK. One of the very first examples of the five-door car, fresh from the wheels up and designed by ex-Lamborghini stylist Luc Donckerwolke, has been touring the country in a dramatic Perspex case aboard a specially-created, SEAT-branded transporter.
