With its new FR (Formula Racing) version, the SEAT Ibiza model is now sportier than ever. The Ibiza FR features attractive interior and exterior styling with distinguishing elements, and is exclusively available with the 150 hp (110 kW) 1.8 20VT engine. The arrival of the new Ibiza FR is an addition to the sporty SEAT product range, which now includes the FR concept on the Ibiza and León models, and the exclusive León Cupra R. The monthly increase in sales is proof of the popularity of SEAT’s high performance products. The León FR versions account for approximately 25% of all units sold. These versions are equipped exclusively with the 180 hp 1.8 20VT and 150 hp 1.9 TDi engines.

All these figures demonstrate the success of SEAT’s sportiest, most powerful versions - a high-performance range that this year will include a new vehicle, the Ibiza Cupra.

FR - sporty initials

The new Ibiza FR features elements that highlight its sporty look and set it apart from the rest of the range, including newly designed bumpers, 16 inch rims, satin-finish titanium coloured door mirrors, headlamps and taillights in smoky titanium, the FR badge on the centre pillars, a chromed double exhaust pipe, metallic-sheen fabric upholstery, and metallic trim on several interior elements.

Other standard elements on the new Ibiza FR include climatiser, foglamps, power windows, electric door mirrors, tinted glass and CD radio with 6 speakers.

Safety elements include standard driver and passenger airbag, side airbags, ABS, TCS, electro-hydraulic power steering, front seatbelt pre-tensioners and three-point rear door-side seatbelts.

To match its characteristics the sporty Ibiza FR is equipped with a specific suspension system that includes the tried and tested Agile Chassis (DSR - Dynamic Steering Response). The SEAT Technical Centre chassis specialists have developed stiffer coils and a variation on the way the suspension system is anchored onto the rear shaft for this version.

The complete equipment list can be complemented with ESP (including EBA), head airbag, passenger airbag disconnection, door mirrors with electric parking position, leather upholstery, xenon headlamps, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, CD loader, navigation system, telephone pre-installation, volumetric alarm and electric sunroof.

The fastest Ibiza

The attractive image of the Ibiza FR complements the excellent performance level of its 150 hp (110 kW) 20VT 1.8 litre engine, which delivers a top speed of 216 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 8.4 seconds. But its excellent performance levels do not imply an excess fuel consumption. In the extra urban cycle, the Ibiza FR only uses up six litres of petrol for every 100 kilometres.

Attractive design, excellent performance and sporty disposition put this FR version at the top of the Ibiza range.

DESIGN: Strong willed

Sporty design and exclusive elements combine in the new, strong-willed Ibiza FR, which transmits sportiness at a glance, thanks to its attractive, five double-spoke, satin finish titanium coloured 16 inch alloy rims. This colour can also be found on the door mirrors, while the headlamp and tail light housing is painted in a smoky titanium colour. This detailing helps define the image of this version and set it apart from the rest of the range.

The exclusively designed front bumper features honeycomb mesh over the air intake vents, while the rear bumper sports a chromed double exhaust pipe. Both bumpers, the rear spoiler and door handles are painted in the same colour as the body, which is available in six colours - Flash red and Ovni yellow (solid), and metallic Polar blue, Magico black, Artico grey and Sombra grey.

On the exterior, this new version carries the FR badge on the central pillars (a black F and a red R), and the Ibiza 20VT identification is on the bottom right of the rear hatch.

The interior of the Ibiza FR also contains several sporty elements, such as the metallic finish on the instrument panel and central console, air nozzles, gearknob and glove compartment handle, and the “FR” badge. The newly designed speedometer and rev counter dials are white on the outside.

The steering wheel, gearknob and gearshift lever are wrapped in leather with grey stitching, and the newly designed seats are upholstered in metallic look fabric

Suggestive lines, sporty looks, quality finish; this is the new Ibiza FR - one version of the Ibiza range with a will of its own.

ENGINE: The most potent in the range

The attractive image of the Ibiza FR complements the excellent performance level of its 1.8 litre engine and twenty valve cylinder head, the most potent engine in the Ibiza range, which delivers highly dynamic, sporty performance levels.

The 150 hp (110 kW) 1.8 20VT engine delivers its maximum torque of 220 Nm at only 2000 rpm, resulting in immediate handling response. With a top speed of 216 km/h, 60-100 km/h in-gear acceleration in 9.2 seconds and 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 8.4 seconds, the thrill of driving is more than guaranteed.

Fuel consumption levels on the Ibiza FR go from the combined figure of 7.9 litres to 6.1 l/100km on the extra-urban cycle.

150 hp 1.8 20VT engine

Performance
Top speed (km/h) 216
Acceleration 0-100 km/h (s) 8,4
In-gear acceleration 60-100 km/h in 5th (s) 9,2
Acceleration 1000 m (s) 29,1

Fuel consumption
Urban cycle (l/100 km) 10,9
Extra urban cycle (l/100 km) 6,1
Combined (l/100 km) 7,9

With the introduction of the new FR version, the SEAT Ibiza range includes nine engines - five petrol and four Diesel - and four equipment levels - Stella, Signo, Sport and FR. Besides the new 150 hp engine, the petrol range includes the 64 hp 1.2 12V, 75 hp 1.4 16V (available with a four-speed automatic gearbox), 100 hp 1.4 16V and 115 hp 2.0. The Diesel range is made up of four engines - the 64 hp 1.9 SDi, 75 hp 1.4 TDi, 100 hp 1.9 TDi and 130 hp 1.9 TDi.

CHASSIS: Greater efficiency

A sporty chassis is a precision instrument, and the chassis on the new Ibiza FR has been developed to respond efficiently under the most extreme conditions and overcome difficult situations without altering its adjustments.

Compared to the Sport versions, the coils are 25% stiffer on the front shaft and 10% on the rear. These new settings along with a 5% diameter increase of the front anti-roll bar (Ø 19 mm), have led to a 15% reduction in rocking, giving the Ibiza FR sportier handling around curves.

The brake system is made up of 288 mm front self-ventilating discs and 232 mm solid rear discs, which are visible on the 16″ alloy rims shod with 205/45 tyres.

The Ibiza FR is also equipped with standard ABS and TCS, with optional ESP (electronic stability programme) which includes EBA, a latest generation brake assistance that guarantees more efficient braking in emergency situations.

Sporty Agile Chassis

As with the rest of the range, the Ibiza FR is equipped with Agile Chassis (DSR - Dynamic Steering Response), which combines specific suspension ratings, specific elastic couplings, tyres with a lower slip angle and an intelligent programme that modulates power steering according to driving speed and steering patterns. The result is more precise handling, greater feedback and quick driving response.

The electro-hydraulic servo-steering uses a variable intensity electric pump that modulates power to the steering wheel for slow-speed manoeuvres or fast turns, and reduces assistance as speed increases.

All of these elements make up DSR, a system that gives the vehicle sportier, more agile handling.
