World premiere at the Barcelona Motor Show: The new SEAT León Cupra R - now with 225 hp

The new León Cupra R, SEAT’s ultimate expression of sportiness, will make its world debut at the Barcelona Show. Last time here in 2001, SEAT unveiled the León Cupra R prototype equipped with a 210 hp 1.8 20VT engine. Now, two years later, it is the turn of the 225 hp (165 kW)1.8 20VT León Cupra R evolution. Developed by SEAT Sport in collaboration with the SEAT Technical Center, the new León Cupra R, now with 15 hp more than its predecessor, continues to be the fastest and most powerful production car in SEAT’s history.
More than 240 km/h
The new León Cupra R exceeds the 240 km/h speed barrier, pushing the speedometer up to 242 km/h. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds and covers a standing kilometre in 26.8 seconds. The new León Cupra R is thus an improvement over its predecessor in every aspect.
But despite the improved performance figures, fuel consumption is virtually the same as the 210 hp Cupra R. The new 225 hp 1.8 20VT León Cupra R has and estimated combined fuel consumption of 8.9 l/100 km, just two-tenths above the previous model.
Exclusive features
The new León Cupra R has exclusive feature three-spoke steering wheel which is wrapped in black leather with an ergonomic grip on both sides for for better control. These areas are covered in perforated black leather through which a red background can be seen. And emmulating race car design, a strip of red leather has been sewn onto the steering wheel, indicating the exact steering center.
The identification of the model, the “LEON” name can be found in the centre of the rear hatch beneath the SEAT symbol. Further identification is provided by the Cupra logo - now in red - and the letter “R”, on the rear hatch and beneath the side indicator repeaters.
The León Cupra R features 7.5Jx18″ alloy wheels with 225/40 tyres, brake disks with Brembo calipers, ABS,TCS, ESP with EBA (Emergency Brake Assistance), sport seats with the letter “R” stiched onto the backrests of the front seats; climate control, radio/CD player, and twin front and side airbags, among others. Recaro sport seats, CD changer, dynamic navigation system, volumetric alarm and telephone pre-installation are available as an option.
